Because of the way Maple Valley was developed….(I sometimes refer to as being from the outside, in) many of the communities were developed with postage stamp size, small lots. Communal parks and open spaces were designed to offset the higher density but another resource available to local residents who are looking to get outside is the Cedar River Trail. Beginning in Ravensdale just off Landsburg Rd, the trail is approximately 17 miles in total length and crosses Maple Valley Highway a few times. The trail was formed from an old Railroad line and therefore is nice and flat. The first part of the trail (heading from Ravensdale) is gravel, so it’s not uncommon to see horses on this part of the trail. The the last 12 miles or so is paved heavily used by joggers, cyclists, roller-bladers and walkers. The trail runs past Rock Creek and along the Cedar River for a long ways. You’ll cross a few trestles, pass a few parks and if you make it to the end, find yourself in Renton! There are several places to access the trail, either starting at Landsburg Park, or just off 261st near the KatesRidge development, just off Witte Rd,
