Are Your Ready for Some Maple Valley Junior Football?

Are Your Ready for Some Maple Valley Junior Football?

Go Raiders! My father would cringe if he heard me say that….only because growing up the Oakland Raiders were one of our family’s least favorite teams. But the Raiders I do cheer for these days is the organization two of my sons played for many years ago; the Maple Valley Raiders.  At the beginning of every school year I republish this post: Originally published, 8/31/2008: The leaves are beginning to fade into yellow on my Dogwood and Maple trees so I know football is just around the corner. When my 3 guys were little, they couldn’t wait to play football. They had seen pictures and football cards of their Grandpa when he had played and they were just chomping at the bit to suit up and get out on the field. Fortunately for them, Maple Valley has a very popular Junior Football Program, the Maple Valley Raiders which was established in 1978.  The Raiders program offers little guys the opportunity to play by age & weight class from as young as age 7.  I will never forget the night my son Graham received his equipment and helmet for the first time…when I woke him up for school the next morning I saw

Maple Valley Youth Sports

Maple Valley Youth Sports

A very common question I’m asked by folks moving to the Maple Valley, WA is about youth sports and what’s available in the area. As a the mother of three boys, we spent our fair share of time on the soccer/lacrosse/baseball/football fields and sat through many  Saturday wrestling matches. I assure everyone coming to the area….the Maple Valley community  has PLENTY of opportunities for both boys and girls to get involved in sports related activities. Here’s a list of organizations, clubs and contact for anyone looking to get more information: Soccer: Maple Valley Soccer Association: I can tell you from first hand experience this is a very active organization. It is well run and offers teams for many different skill levels. Tahoma Little League: When my boys were growing up, the closest Little League Organization was in Kent. So they played Pony until moving onto Select teams. I know Tahoma Little League is very popular with area families. Baseball: Maple Valley Pony Baseball: All three of my sons played Pony ball and we have lots of fond memories-especially the famous Triple Play at Hobart Field! Softball: Maple Valley Pony Fastpitch Softball Football: Maple Valley Raiders: Football for the little guys

Lake Sawyer Park

Lake Sawyer Park

Located in Black Diamond, Lake Sawyer is the 4th largest lake in King County and  is where some of the best Bass fishing happens too. (or so I’ve been told). The lake is approximately 286 acres in size and at it’s maximum, 58 feet deep. Because it is the largest boating/wake-boarding/jet ski lake in South East King County, prices for waterfront real estate are considerably higher than on some of the smaller, non-motor lakes in the area. At the very Southern end of the Lake is a magnificent view of Mt. Rainier. I have great photos I’ll have to find of when my parents lived on the lake with a drop dead view of the Mountain in all it’s glory. There is also a park on the agenda for the area South of the lake but budget cuts seem to have put it on hold for now. On the South West side of the lake you’ll find the public boat launch next to a small park which is one of my favorite places to stop for lunch or just a few minutes to enjoy a beautiful afternoon. The Eastern side of the Lake is serviced by the Tahoma School district,
