Spotlight on Tahoma Schools

The League of Education Voters blog published an overview of the Tahoma School district yesterday. The author is going to do a weekly overview of  those Washington schools which were named in the Newseek top 5% article. When it comes to Tahoma, she writes: So overall, it definitely looks like Tahoma is doing what they need to do to make Newsweek I thought I’d help spotlight the spotlight to help spread the word about our great schools!

‘Twas the Week Before School Starts….

And I imgine there are a few frantic parents (and kids) wondering “where did the Summer go?”. I for one am wondering “why did Summer never arrive?” But weather woes aside, the two and 1/2 months of vacation have nearly come to an end for students of the Tahoma School district. Bus schedules should come out in this week’s Voice of the Valley. I called the district last week and was told they would be published in last week’s edition, but only Enumclaw times and stops were listed. Hopefully one day the district will be able to post this information on their website. In the meantime, I’ll keep a copy on hand. If you need any information about stops and times, feel free to email me and I’ll send the information out. (Update. I found out the district does have transportation schedules online. Here you go! This is the first September in 16 years that I haven’t been scrambling to buy school supplies, back packs, shoes and the latest “cool” clothes. My youngest son graduated from Tahoma Sr. High in June, so I’m officially finished with primary education, however that doesn’t mean you won’t see me around. My husband and

Another Feather in Tahoma School District’s Cap!

Another Feather in Tahoma School District’s Cap!

One more reason to be proud of the schools in Maple Valley. Newsweek magazine recently posted their list of high schools which rank among the top 5% in the Nation for students having taken AP tests and Tahoma Senior High is on that list! As a parent who has graduated two children from the high school, I know the district takes great pride in it’s academic achievements. The Tahoma School District boasts test scores which have consistently remained at the top among South King County districts, this is yet another indication of the dedication of teachers, students and district personnel.  Many relocating to the greater Seattle area have chosen to move to Maple Valley because of it’s affordability (relative to the Seattle/Bellevue area), sense of community and strong school district.   Colleen Fischesser is the Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Select in Maple Valley, WA. YTD Market Comparison by School District

Many relocating employees and their families may be interested in seeing how the Maple Valley area is priced compared to other areas of South King County. The Tahoma School district continues to be a strong draw for those moving to the Seattle area with consistently high test scores (nearly the highest in every category amount South King County districts). This comparison is based upon Single Family homes sold and closed as of January 1, 2008 which were listed through NWMLS. It does not take into account “By Owner” listings or other transfers of ownership (such as foreclosures): div>   Kent Auburn Renton Maple Valley Number Sold 759 263 590 301 Average Market Time 80 days 95 days 84 days 93 days Average Sales Price $363,143 $323,257 $408,988 $401,975  The Kent School district covers a huge geographic area, coming into Covington on the East, through the Valley and up onto the West Hill, so it’s not surprising to see the number of sales so much higher. Despite being a slightly farther commute to the Seattle/Bellevue area than Renton, the Maple Valley numbers reflect it’s value with home buyers.

South King County School District Scores….Tahoma Leads the Pack!

South King County School District Scores….Tahoma Leads the Pack!

Historically homes in South King County have proven more affordable for Employees relocating to the Puget Sound because of their being further distanced from the Metropolitan areas of Seattle and Bellevue.    Maple Valley has long been an attractive alternative to the Bellevue/Eastside area for relocating families due to the strength of the Tahoma School District and lower prices. As a convenience for those researching South King County markets, I’ve compiled a side by side comparison of various information from school districts which include:  Auburn, Kent, Renton, Federal Way, Enumclaw and Tahoma (Maple Valley). At every grade and subject level but one, Tahoma WASL Scores were higher than all South King County districts.
