Lake Wilderness Park

In the heart of Maple Valley, comprised of 117 acres is Lake Wilderness Park. It’s the hub of many Maple Valley annual activities, including Maple Valley Days, Concerts in the Park, the Fishing Derby and 4th of July Celebration and is where many youth sports teams can be found in the Fall & Spring!   The lakeside beach is a popular spot on hot summer days (yes, it does get hot here especially in August).  There are Lifeguards on duty during posted hours and a concession stand for hungry swimmers.   The Lake itself is 67 acres and is 38 feet deep at it’s deepest but has a median depth of 21 feet. The park is really one of my favorite places to spend time in Maple Valley, especially on a beautifully sunny day. There are acres and acres of play areas, grassy coves along the banks of the lake for a quiet picnic or private fishing experience- expansive areas for badminton and bocce ball     Larger parties can use one of the several picnic shelters which are available for rent from the City. On the North Western edge of the lake is the Lake Wilderness Lodge which is

100 Buyers Can’t Be Wrong!

100 Buyers Can’t Be Wrong!

Whether you’re relocating to the Seattle/Puget Sound region, or just across King County, you may want to take a closer look at Maple Valley. Over 100 Buyers ( likely more than that given that many listings are purchased by couples) have decided Maple Valley, WA is the place for them to make their 2008 home purchase. Currently there are over 100 Single Family homes and Condos under contract and awaiting the close of Escrow. Why the appeal? Maple Valley is a bedroom community approximately 20 miles South East of Seattle. It is a reasonable drive to the best of what the City offers-sports, arts, theater, dining, and just a short 40 minutes away from snow sports at Snoqualmie pass. The Tahoma School District can boast the highest test scores among all South King County districts, a fact many families relocating to the area look for and can appreciate. Many buyers acting now are coming from the Eastside- Iassaquah and the Sammamish Plateau because although the commute is a bit longer, they are finding they can o get much more home for their money in many cases.  Neighboring city Covington is growing it’s commercial base by leaps and bounds and Maple Valley residents are able to take advantage of these new and

Our Donut Hole Makes the Tonight Show!

Our Donut Hole Makes the Tonight Show!

It seems Jay Leno finds Maple Valley’s Donut Hole Controversy pretty funny as it recently received airtime on The Tonight Show. I have to admit, if you’re on the outside looking in,  it does seem pretty odd and even funny. …That a City is holding meetings about their Donut Hole issue.  But for those of us who live in Maple Valley and are sick and tired of Ron Sims and the King County Council’s questionable political maneuvers (the suspiciously fast passing of the ridiculously strict Critical Areas Ordinance is one example which comes to mind) it’s really not so funny. As a quick recap, the Donut Hole is an area of property (apx 160 acres) currently owned by the County but entirely surrounded by the City. The County is in negotiations to make a trade with a large developer ; the donut hole for a larger piece of rural property. Because the County owns the Donut Hole property, it would control the density and development restrictions, while retaining all of the development fees. In the meantime, the City, which may see it’s population increase by as much as 30% if developed as outlined will have no control over density or building type, but will have the

Does the Sun Ever Shine in Seattle? You Bet Check out Hobart Today!

Does the Sun Ever Shine in Seattle? You Bet Check out Hobart Today!

Yep, this is me(the picture is purposely NOT good I hate having my photo taken more than going to the dentist)….enjoying a beautiful January day in the blinding sunshine of the Pacific Northwest! This is typical of Seattle sunny days, when the blue of the sky is awesomely clear and the truest blue I’ve ever seen. I was lucky to be able to enjoy the sun as I needed to preview a few properties in the Hobart area, a very small rural town South of Issaquah and due East of Maple Valley. Although it has it’s own zip code, this history rich town shares a school district and many community amenities with Maple Valley. In fact, the “HO” in Tahoma, stands for Hobart. (Alright, no jokes there ok?) I thought I would share one of my favorite views of rural Maple Valley/Hobart where homes range in age from early 1900′s farm houses to brand new construction. Zoning, is one home per 5 acres and King County has jurisdiction over new development & new construction. PS: If taking your own photo in the blinding sun while driving on a rural road is illegal then I did NOT take this photo myself!
