One more reason to be proud of the schools in Maple Valley. Newsweek magazine recently posted their list of high schools which rank among the top 5% in the Nation for students having taken AP tests and Tahoma Senior High is on that list! As a parent who has graduated two children from the high school, I know the district takes great pride in it’s academic achievements. The Tahoma School District boasts test scores which have consistently remained at the top among South King County districts, this is yet another indication of the dedication of teachers, students and district personnel.  Many relocating to the greater Seattle area have chosen to move to Maple Valley because of it’s affordability (relative to the Seattle/Bellevue area), sense of community and strong school district.   Colleen Fischesser is the Broker/Owner of RE/MAX Select in Maple Valley, WA. School’s Out For Summer!

School’s Out For Summer!

The term “Summer Vacation” has taken on a new meaning in our home. It’s no longer the time when the kids are out of school for two and a half months. My youngest son graduated from Tahoma Senior High  last week so I am unofficially done with school & my kids. I say unofficially because there’s still college to deal with, but that’s a level which doesn’t involve school lunches and progess reports.  Yesterday was the last day of school for the rest of the district and today Maple Valley seems to be moving in slow-motion as new routines are formed. We’re fortunate to have many Summer resources for local kids, whether it’s swimming at Lake Wilderness to cool down, swim lessons at the Covington Pool or an assortment host of warm weather activities and trips for kids of all ages organized by the Maple Valley Community Center. I hope you have a fun & safe Summer and remember to take time to enjoy it…. Yep, this is me(the picture is purposely NOT good I hate having my photo taken more than going to the dentist)….enjoying a beautiful January day in the blinding sunshine of the Pacific Northwest! This is typical of Seattle sunny days, when the blue of the sky is awesomely clear and the truest blue I’ve ever seen. I was lucky to be able to enjoy the sun as I needed to preview a few properties in the Hobart area, a very small rural town South of Issaquah and due East of Maple Valley. Although it has it’s own zip code, this history rich town shares a school district and many community amenities with Maple Valley. In fact, the “HO” in Tahoma, stands for Hobart. (Alright, no jokes there ok?) I thought I would share one of my favorite views of rural Maple Valley/Hobart where homes range in age from early 1900′s farm houses to brand new construction. Zoning, is one home per 5 acres and King County has jurisdiction over new development & new construction. PS: If taking your own photo in the blinding sun while driving on a rural road is illegal then I did NOT take this photo myself!
